(Source: Embassy of Canada in France) The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is the principal United Nations organization mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. The UNHCR is leading the refugee response for the more than 4.2 million Syrians who have sought refuge from the Syria crisis in the neighbouring countries of Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey. It is also supporting conflict-affected people inside Syria, and assisting countries in Europe to manage the flow of migrants into the region.
