(Source: DfID - UK Department for International Development) The UK is providing a further £200 million in bilateral aid to Africa to tackle the root causes of migration, the Prime Minister announced, as European and African leaders gathered in Malta to develop a coordinated approach to address the migrant and refugee crisis. The UN estimates there are almost 15 million forcibly displaced people in Africa, including three million refugees. So far this year around 140,000 migrants have arrived in Italy by sea - the majority from African countries such as Nigeria, Somalia and Sudan.
